The Silent Image
Silent cinema isn't a museum relic. It's the root of everything. The Silent imAGE Project travels across eras, movements and authors of silent film: every title is digitally restored in 4K UHD, and every screening can become an evening devoted to a single film or a custom-built focus celebrating a director, a movement or a theme.
The restoration is paired with live synthesizer scoring, to amplify the extraordinary modernity of the works. One or more musicians or actors can join in, reading passages from the directors' autobiographies, quotes from their works or poems that enrich the films' suggestions.
One rule for every screening: watch in silence. Talking comes after.
Four nights, four eras of silent cinema
One film per night, restored in UHD 4K and scored live, at Contrada La Targia (Siracusa) — one screening for each of the festival's four months.
